BOX-ART
-_-_-_-_-
The cover & back are split into two sections, one for each film. With the information for the first film on the top, and the second on the bottom. Blue & purple panels with renders of the family are split by a banner in the center that says, "2-Movie Collection." Logos for each film is that the top of the corresponding panel.
Like the front, the back has two panels with images & renders from each film. Tech. specs. are listed in the colored panel under each films description.
MENUS
-_-_-
The menu for both films, is a render of the Addams in front of a fittingly spooky background render. Sub menus will pop-up allowing you to select play, scenes, set-up, etc. Film two opens with a menu prompting you to select a menu language, after the Paramount logo.
AUDIO
-_-_-
It seems the bass channel is used sparingly, but otherwise both mixes sound fine. I believe both films were original mixed in Dolby Surround, so it makes sense these are remixed. Film two has two Spanish tracks, Latin & Castilian. This is also the case with subtitles, where we have two Spanish & two French. Film two has an English Descriptive track that is Dolby 5.1 at 640 Kb/s.
As to be expected all vocal songs, minus the Mamushka, are in English regardless of which dub you choose.
VIDEO
-_-_-
Both films are opened up slightly from their original aspect ratio of 1.85:1 to 1.78:1. Colors are also good, a bit dull but I suspect this is a stylistic choose to fit the tone. I see no compression or noise reduction artifacts throughout either films. Film one fairs better than film two in the grain department, with the first having a nice fine grain structure, while second seems quite thick and granular. At times the chunky grain almost has a dot-crawl looking effect, but only if you look close. Contrast sufferers a bit with clipping white levels in bright scenes of film two.
EXTRAS
-_-_-_-
Aside from two theatrical trailers on film one, no extras are included. Kind of a bummer, but there is a 4K version coming that is supposed to have some! Well, for the first film at least.
FINAL THOUGHTS
-_-_-_-_-_-_-
I remembered enjoying these films as a kid, and I still do. I always liked the second film better than the first, but having both in one pack is great. I even have a tape recording of the entire 1996 TV premiere! But of course, the Blu-Ray blows it out of the water.
