BOX-ART

-_-_-_-_-

The cover features a render of Naruto holding a scroll over a a yellow background, along with a box talking about how the episodes are uncut. The back has an overview description of the episodes on the set with a list of extras and specifications, and renders of Sakura & Sasuke.

MENUS

-_-_-_-

Music from the series is looped over static menus with character renders. Menus feature options of play all, language set-up, episode selection, and extras on discs three and six. A short clip from one of the episodes on the disc plays after you select play all as a transition between the menu and the episodes.

VIDEO

-_-_-

It's not particularly sharp, but not exactly blurry either. They seem to be using composite tape for the video transfer. The colors look okay, maybe a touch under saturated, but the main issue is that there is loads of dot crawling. Not sure if Viz is just using old masters or if the show looks like this on the Japanese DVDs too.

These sets are, as the box says, uncut. None of the edits made for the Adult Swim airings are present, those versions of the episodes are available in separate sets. Even the opening, credits, and next episode previews are left as is. Some English credits are, however, included as as extra feature via the main menu.

AUDIO

-_-_-_-

Both the original Japanese audio as well as the uncensored English dub are included in stereo. The openings and credits are in Japanese regardless of which audio you chose, as the songs were never dubbed since the Tonami airings used a dub exclusive opening. (Which is only on the edited sets.) Only one set of English subtitles is available, and they are only a transcription of the dub audio. The opening features an English translation, while the ending has no subtitles at all.

EXTRAS

-_-_-_-

Some, "sketch to screens," and advertisements are included on discs three and six.

FINAL THOUGHTS

-_-_-_-_-_-_-

I was hoping the video would have looked a bit better, but the set is alright. I very much appreciate the episodes being available uncensored and with both the original audio and the dub. The is the only anime I, personally, have watched aside from Pokémon, which has never been as lucky!
